Blue Wren Vintage
HATTIE CARNEGIE was a huge influencer on American fashion in the 1940s and 1950s. Many renowned American designers such as Pauline Trigere, Norman Norell and Clare McCardell studied under her tutelage and Lucille Ball was an in house model for Hattie Carnegie in the late 1920s. This is the kind of recognition that Hattie Carnegie had in her time, and several of her items are held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York
This stunning jaw dropper is from what I believe to be the late 1940s possibly early 1950s. She is a deep black luscious super soft velvet, though the velvet is not heavy so I believe it to be silk. She has a very flattering bateau neckline which has what is similar to a crossgrain piping trim which is on both the neckline and the sleeve. She has two hidden pockets on each side of the skirt.
The sleeve itself is a short to medium length and ends just at the elbow. Each sleeve has an absolutely incredible Austrian crystal button which appears art deco influenced. This button is super sparkly and is fully original and intact. She is fully lined in a black silk lining.
To the back the bodice has an incredibly striking drop neckline, this is truly stunning in real life, the photos do not do this justice! She also has a bow to the back made in the same crossgrain style fabric as featured on the trim.
She also has her own tulle underlay with horsehair hem which affixes with a waist stay. She fastens with a metal zipper and hook and eye at the top and then several hooks and eyes around the waist area which holds the bow in place.
